Just A Quickie

Not a whole lot to say, still eagerly awaiting my codex, forge world order and new Chaos pre-orders to arrive so with very little to work with it's all quite on the Chaos front but the storm is coming so to speak. However my previously WIP terminator is done so I'll at least toss the pics up here for all to see.

Old and New

It's funny how much one can improve with their painting and not even realize it. My Night Lords have seen very little light of day (pun intended) in the last year so I haven't really seen them much in that time. I have pretty fond memories of painting the army though and how proud I was of it at the time and thus I had this image in my head of how they were my best work to date. Well with the new codex on the way I'm going into Chaos mode and so I snatched up one of my yet unpainted Terminators and right away went to work. I had a few regrets on my last paint scheme for my Night Lords and that was primarily I ended up going a lighter shade of blue than I really envisioned but I got to far into painting them at the time to want to go back and correct it. I really want my Night Lords to be a vision of menace and evil. In my minds eye they are dark, brooding and have the overall feel of being shrouded in shadows. So this time around I went for a darker, more muted shade of blue.

To get to the point I ended up pulling out one of my old Terminators to compare side by side and was kind of shocked at how much I felt I had improved in two years. I've felt for a little while now that I hadn't been pushing myself enough and my painting skills had started to stagnate (compounded on by the fact that I had done so little painting in the last 6 months). It was quite encouraging then to put these side by side and see this. Anyway here's some comparison shots I just snapped. The Terminator in the left is the more recent one if it wasn't obvious, he's still not 100% done with work still needed on the trophy rack and power axe but it was close enough to snap these shots and get my point across. Let me know what you think of the new scheme too, especially if you like the darker, moodier look.

Reinforcements Incoming

When I decided to reboot my Night Lords I told myself I was going to make it something a little more special than your average Chaos Marine army. I was quite inspired by the tales of Talos and the 10th Company form Aaron Dembski-Bowden's Night Lords trilogy with their bitter disposition and constant need to scavenge. So I decided my Night Lords warband was going to be in a similar if not quite as dire state and that I was going to give them an old veteran look like these guys had been fighting in the and with the same gear since the time of the Heresy. So naturally I went with a lot of the Forge World Older Mk armour sets.

I just finished placing my Forge World order as well as spending a hefty sum on bitz through ebay so the army will be in full swing in a matter of weeks. The final Forge World order consisted the following

1x MK IV SPACE MARINE ASSAULT SQUAD

1x MK V SPACE MARINE ASSAULT SQUAD

1x MK II CRUSADE ARMOUR

1x MK IV MAXIMUS ARMOUR

2x MK V HERESY ARMOUR

2x SPACE MARINE BOLTER - PHOBOS PATTERN X10

2x SPACE MARINE SPECIAL WEAPONS PACK

1x SPACE MARINE CHARACTER CONVERSION SET

1x DEIMOS PATTERN PREDATOR

2x MKIC DEIMOS PATTERN RHINO

1x CHAIN AXES

1x HELL BLADE CHAOS FIGHTER

Here We Go

So here we are, my first blog. I've been meaning to create one of these for ages but I guess I just needed the inspiration to do so. Well that inspiration reared it's chaotic head earlier this week. Those who know me know I'm a huge fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and tabletop game and in particular the armies of the Chaos Space Marines. I've been a proud warp tainted heretic for years and with the release of a new codex for the Chaos Space Marines it is time I dove head first into revising my favourite band of murderous, midnight clad villains. If not readily apparent I've created this blog to share the progress on my Night Lords army including modelling, painting and my experiences with the new codex as I get a feel for the army and build a force fitting of the VIII Legion.

So for now I'll leave you with a few images of my first work in progress Terminator from my Warband's Atramentar. With a huge order coming my way from Forge World and my new Chaos models and codex already pre-ordered I'll be entering back into the world of Chaos fast and furious so if you like what you see keep a close eye on the blog as the army gets into full swing in the coming month.
